For the first time, the school system has earned district accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). This is the highest level that can be attained from the national accrediting organization. A 14-member team of educators from throughout the country spent more than three days examining data, visiting local schools and talking with 493 stakeholders. They presented their findings to the school board on Wednesday afternoon. "They checked to see if we were worthy, and they found we were," board member Cathy Williams said Wednesday. In the past, Muscogee County schools have been accredited one at a time.
